Notice: Seventh Grade STAAR Reading and Language Arts Field Test
Dear Parents and Guardians,
On Tuesday, February 3, 2026, EMS 7th graders will be participating in a STAAR Stand-Alone Field Test for Reading and Language Arts.
We want to emphasize that this is a field test and not the real STAAR exam.
A field test is a "practice run" for the state. The Texas Education Agency (TEA) uses these sessions to try out new test questions for future years. This ensures that when questions are eventually used on real exams, they are fair, accurate, and high-quality.
No Grades or Scores: Students will not receive scores for this test. It does not affect their report cards, promotion to the next grade, or graduation requirements.
Low Stakes: Because this is not the operational STAAR exam, there is no need for students to feel anxious. We encourage them to simply do their best so the state gets accurate data on the questions.
Format: The test will be administered online, similar to the regular STAAR format, helping students become more familiar with the testing interface.
Regular STAAR Dates: The "real" STAAR assessments will still take place later this spring.
Our goal is to make this a stress-free experience that helps our students feel more prepared for the spring. If you have any questions regarding the field test, please feel free to contact the front office.
Sincerely,
Eastland Middle School Administration
