Dear Parents and Guardians,
We are excited to share information about the Eastland Middle School Student Council (EMS StuCo)! Our Student Council gives students in grades 6–8 an opportunity to build leadership skills, represent their classmates, and contribute to the positive culture of our school.
Mission and Purpose
The mission of EMS Student Council is to:
Represent the voices and interests of all students.
Promote school spirit, leadership, and responsibility.
Organize student-led events, community service, and school improvement projects.
Encourage a positive and respectful school culture.
Roles and Responsibilities
Student Council is made up of elected officers and class representatives. Elected officers are picked from the 8th grade class. Class representatives are elected from the 6th and 7th grade classes.
President – Leads meetings, represents the student body, and helps set goals.
Vice President – Assists the President and helps coordinate activities.
Secretary – Records meeting minutes and supports communication.
Treasurer – Tracks fundraising and spending with advisor oversight.
Class Representatives – Share ideas and concerns from their grade, assist with planning, and promote student involvement.
Eligibility & Election Process
Open to all EMS students in grades 6–8 with good academic and behavior standing.
Students must submit an application and a teacher recommendation.
Approved candidates will campaign by creating and hanging posters no larger than 8.5x11 in the middle school hallways.Posters may be hung before (7:00-7:50 AM) or after school (3:30-4:00) on Tuesday, September 2nd. All posters must be taken down by Friday, September 5th at 4:00 PM.
Elections will be conducted in Google Forms during the 3rd period class on Monday, September 8th.
All officers and representatives serve a one-year term.
Meetings & Expectations
Meetings are held at least once per month. Times will vary and will be communicated in advance.
Members are expected to attend all meetings, participate in events, and model positive behavior.
Removal from Student Council may occur for repeated absences, failure to complete duties, or behavior issues, with advisor and principal approval.
Why It Matters
Being part of Student Council helps students develop responsibility, confidence, and teamwork while also making a real difference at EMS. They will be directly involved in planning school events, leading service projects, and promoting school spirit.
We encourage you to support your student if they are interested in running for a position or becoming involved in Student Council. Applications can be picked up in the Middle School office.
