Public Announcement: In an effort to reduce the spread of the COVID 19 virus, Eastland Independent School District is going to reduce the amount of on campus staff to essential personnel only. Visitors will be seen by appointment only. Please contact your individual campuses for details. It is important that we do our best to comply with all of the suggestions made to reduce the spread of COVID 19. Beginning Wednesday March 25, 2020 EISD will reduce all campus staff to essential personnel only and reduce entrances to each campus to one entrance per building. Each person will sign in and complete the “self-screening” questions before entering the building. Please note, visitors will be seen by appointment. This is uncharted territory for all of us. To all EHS students. You should have received word on Friday with instructions for the next 2 weeks. If we missed you, here it the plan in short. Your teachers will be communicating with you through google classroom and your school email. Every teacher will be available via zoom 1 hour every day and their times are listed, or will be, on their google classroom. If you need a device to use for this time of online instruction, stop by the office and we will get you a Chromebook to use. The district is in the process of setting up hotspots around town for you to get wifi by Wednesday of this week. I know there are lots of questions and uncertainty at this point and we will try to answer those in a timely manner. Please call the office at 254-631-5000 and we will assist in any way we can. Don't forget about the free breakfast and lunch available for pickup at Siebert from 11-12:30 Monday- Friday. Stay tuned to Facebook, Google classroom, and your email for updates along the way. Given the rapidly evolving situation with COVID-19, Eastland ISD will extend the suspension of normal district operations through Friday, April 3rd in an effort support our nation’s need to slow the spread of the novel coronavirus, or COVID-19. We will be sending information out this week to families on how instruction will be delivered to continue the education of our students. Staff will be contacted by their administration regarding reporting to work and defining responsibilities. Families will be given details regarding their child’s instruction Friday March 20, 2020. We completely understand that this will be challenging for both families and teachers. We are blessed to live in a community willing to work together. Please don’t hesitate to reach out with any question. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention has outlined the need for all communities to implement a social distancing protocol. We want to reiterate a request to our broader community to take the following reasonable precautions to prevent the spread of the illness: • Don’t shake hands • Wash your hands regularly • Limit movement within the community, especially avoiding crowded placed and maintaining 3 to 6 ft of distance between people (at least an arm’s length) • If you are moving around in the community, don’t congregate in large groups • For those who have traveled to areas with known COVID-19 cases – both inside and outside of the country – we ask that you self-quarantine and monitor for symptoms. Students who have traveled should plan to stay home for two weeks after arriving home. Please contact your campus to let them know, and this will be considered an excused absence. • If you suspect you have symptoms of COVID-19, call your health care provider for medical advice . • Keep your child at home if he/she feels ill, even if you think it is just a cold. • Do not leave the house if you are ill, except to access medical care This is a quickly changing situation, and we will continue to monitor information, will assess conditions throughout the week, and we will provide updates periodically via our website and local news sources. Eastland ISD will provide curbside meals for anyone 18 years of age or younger during the week of March 16-20. Starting Tuesday (3-17-20), Curbside meals at Siebert Elementary School and Eastland High/Jr. High will be open from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. for meal pick-up. Lunch for that day and breakfast for the following day will be available for pick up. Families should remain in their cars to pick-up meals curbside at either the east side of Siebert Elementary or behind Eastland High School. This service will continue as long as school is closed.

EISD administration will be meeting Monday to work out the details to begin serving meals Tuesday. We will release the details as soon as they are established.

A number of public school districts in north Texas are announcing an extended spring break to help prevent the spread of COVID-19. After collaborating with state and county health officials as well as surrounding educational leaders, Eastland ISD has decided to extend spring break until Monday, March 23rd. The health and safety of our students and staff is a top priority. The goals of this announced closure are to help prevent the spread of disease and to give our staff additional time to plan for continuity of services should it become necessary for EISD to close for a longer period of time. EISD Admin will meet Monday March 16th and communicate with their staff shortly afterwards regarding the upcoming week. EISD has had numerous inquiries about the start of school Monday following spring break. Please know that your child's safety is our first priority. There are several state meetings happening today that will provide guidance for us to appropriately plan for our district. We will make an announcement at 5:00 today detailing our districts plan.
