UIL State Solo and Ensemble Results

Thousands of band, choir and orchestra students traveled to Austin last weekend to participate in the UIL Texas State Solo and Ensemble Contest. Students must have made a first division on their solo or ensemble to advance to the state level. Solos must be memorized and a class 1 as on the Prescribed Music List (PML). Ensembles must also be class 1 and from the same PML. Advancing from region to state is rigorous and challenging for all involved. When a student qualifies for state, they must continue to work on their music to perfection until the end of May.

The achievement to the state level is not easy by any means and ratings at the state level are judged at the highest standards for UIL. All ratings aside, these students participated and became better musicians.

Flute Trio Clark, Taylor, Hendricks, Kiera, Rojas, Meleny

Gold Medal - Soloist - OUTSTANDING PERFORMER

Joel Hernandez was also named an Outstanding Performer by his judge. This is a distinction that a judge can give once the entire contest is complete. It is completely at the discretion of the judge. This is the equivalent to a STATE CHAMPIONSHIP in Solo and Ensemble. Joel will receive a UIL State Gold Medal in the next few weeks. His musicianship and dedication is what drives him to be the best person and musician he can be.

This is a proud moment for EISD and our community.

Thank you again for all the support,
Cody
