On Saturday, November 5th, EHS sophomore Andrew Hicks, competed at the class 3A state cross country meet in Round Rock.  He placed 12th out of 152 runners at the meet. This makes two consecutive seasons he has placed in top 12 at state. He narrowly missed a medal for the second straight year as a runners from East Bernard and Troy edged him out near the finish line.

Andrew’s time of 16:36.9 was a second off his pace of 16:35.2 last season.  Andrew did manage to outrun two regional runners from Jim Ned and Presidio who had beaten him at the Region 1 championships on October 25th.

Overall the Lady Mav and Maverick HS and MS cross country teams claimed 4 of the 8 team championships this year at district.  They also brought 5 of the 8 individual race championships back home to Eastland.  The HS boys team finished in the top 10 at regionals for the second consecutive year.

There are several runners who will be competing in various off-season races this year beginning with the Southwest JR Olympic USATF event next weekend in Ft Worth.

Coach Ebbs and Coach Lewis would like to congratulate all the runners on a very good season.  They also want to say thank you to the parents, family members, and friends of the program for their generous support and encouragement along the way during the season and are looking forward to the promise the future holds for the cross country program.
