At the School Board meeting on January 15th, Allison Herrera and Alex Murdock were named as Students of the Month for December!
Allison is an outstanding student who has inspired many this year with her determination and resilience. Over the course of the school year, she has had a remarkable recovery after a terrible accident. She has been active in FCCLA for two years. After graduating, she plans to attend Ranger College in pursuit of a Nursing degree. Her favorite teacher is Mrs. Trammell. Mrs. Trammell praised Allison for her dedication to improving herself:
"Allison is a hard worker. Last year, she took initiative, worked through tutorials, gained the knowledge she needed to succeed, and developed more confidence in herself. This year, after suffering a severe accident, her journey to recovery has been nothing short of remarkable. Allison, you have beaten the odds and are an inspiration to both your peers and teachers. Keep being amazing. You well deserve student of the month, if not student of the year."
Alex is noted as an observant, respectful, and hard working student. He has been active in Varsity Basketball for three years, and received Honorable Mention All District last year. He also has played Football and Baseball for the Mavericks, as well as participating in Track. After graduating, he plans on attending Texas State Technical College in Waco in pursuit of an electrical degree. Alternatively, he may seek to pursue further success in Track in college. His favorite teachers are Mr. Perry and Coach Alaina Thompson. Coach Thompson noted Alex's professional nature and dedication to pursuing excellence:
“Alex made a point to pay close attention to how the seniors above him responded to me, my classwork, and my expectations. He then made a point to start HIS senior year off showing me that he cared about his grades and immediately proving his work ethic. Alex is a great kid. He works hard, never gives attitude, and is always asking for clarification when needing help. I love having him in class, because he is so easygoing, is really funny, AND I can see how his work ethic affects the other kids. He is more than deserving of being student of the month. If I had any say, he’d be student of the year.”
Congratulations to both of these outstanding students!
