At the School Board meeting on December 18th, Jianna Vasquez and Samuel Cruz were named as Students of the Month for November!
Jianna has been a part of EHS Cheer for 2 years, has participated in EHS Art for two years, and was an active member of the Lady Mavs Volleyball Team and Softball Team all four years of High School. This past Volleyball Season, she was a member of the Varsity team and earned Academic All-District honors. In the upcoming Softball season, she will be on the Varsity team as well.
Jianna plans to attend Weatherford College after graduating and will pursue a degree in Radiology. Her favorite teacher/coach is Mrs. Tina Rodgers, her volleyball coach.
Mrs. Rodgers had this to say about Jianna Vasquez: "Jianna stands out in my mind because I watched her face adversity first hand and the way she responded to that adversity was to put her head down and go to work for her team. She spent no time dwelling on HER and went to work for her TEAM. She always gives 100%, she is always steady and consistent, and she pours into others around her. That is the kind of person you just want on your side; on your team. Because of this, I know she will continue to be a success in this life and I'm just happy that I got to be a little part of it."
Samuel has been active in Varsity Football for two years, and made 2nd team All-District this year. He ran for the Varsity Cross Country team for three years and advanced to Regionals all three years. He has been in Varsity Track for two years, made it to Area last year, and plans to make it even further this coming track season.
After Graduation, Samuel plans to attend Tarleton State University or TSTC in Abilene. He wants to pursue a degree in Mechanical Engineering at Tarleton, or if he goes to TSTC, he plans to go the automotive route. His favorite teacher is Mrs. Judy Smith, his Kindergarten teacher.
Coach Landers had this to say about Samuel Cruz: "Sammy has the greatest attitude of anyone in the program. Always yes sir, and always has a smile on. He does everything the right way and never quits."
Mrs. Smith recalled her time teaching Samuel in Kindergarten, and said, "Sammy always liked to play hard, and was all boy!"
Congratulations to both of these outstanding students!
