Public Announcement: In an effort to reduce the spread of the COVID 19 virus, Eastland Independent School District is going to reduce the amount of on campus staff to essential personnel only. Visitors will be seen by appointment only. Please contact your individual campuses for details. It is important that we do our best to comply with all of the suggestions made to reduce the spread of COVID 19. Beginning Wednesday March 25, 2020 EISD will reduce all campus staff to essential personnel only and reduce entrances to each campus to one entrance per building. Each person will sign in and complete the “self-screening” questions before entering the building. Please note, visitors will be seen by appointment. This is uncharted territory for all of us. Thank you for your patience as we make necessary changes. Below is an example of the sign in sheet… Staff sign in: 1. Have you taken your temperature today? Circle one: Yes No 2. Do you currently have a fever? Circle one: Yes No 3. Do you have a fever and symptoms of lower respiratory illness (e.g., cough, difficulty breathing, shortness of breath)? Circle one: Yes No 4. Have you or any person in your family, had close contact with a laboratory confirmed COVID-19 (positive case of coronavirus) patient or somebody displaying symptoms within the past 14 days? Circle one: Yes No

To all EHS students. You should have received word on Friday with instructions for the next 2 weeks. If we missed you, here it the plan in short. Your teachers will be communicating with you through google classroom and your school email. Every teacher will be available via zoom 1 hour every day and their times are listed, or will be, on their google classroom. If you need a device to use for this time of online instruction, stop by the office and we will get you a Chromebook to use. The district is in the process of setting up hotspots around town for you to get wifi by Wednesday of this week. I know there are lots of questions and uncertainty at this point and we will try to answer those in a timely manner. Please call the office at 254-631-5000 and we will assist in any way we can. Don't forget about the free breakfast and lunch available for pickup at Siebert from 11-12:30 Monday- Friday. Stay tuned to Facebook, Google classroom, and your email for updates along the way. We look forward to seeing you soon, but in the meantime, stay safe.

Given the rapidly evolving situation with COVID-19, Eastland ISD will extend the suspension of normal district operations through Friday, April 3rd in an effort support our nation’s need to slow the spread of the novel coronavirus, or COVID-19. We will be sending information out this week to families on how instruction will be delivered to continue the education of our students. Staff will be contacted by their administration regarding reporting to work and defining responsibilities. Families will be given details regarding their child’s instruction Friday March 20, 2020. We completely understand that this will be challenging for both families and teachers. We are blessed to live in a community willing to work together. Please don’t hesitate to reach out with any question. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention has outlined the need for all communities to implement a social distancing protocol. We want to reiterate a request to our broader community to take the following reasonable precautions to prevent the spread of the illness: • Don’t shake hands • Wash your hands regularly • Limit movement within the community, especially avoiding crowded placed and maintaining 3 to 6 ft of distance between people (at least an arm’s length) • If you are moving around in the community, don’t congregate in large groups • For those who have traveled to areas with known COVID-19 cases – both inside and outside of the country – we ask that you self-quarantine and monitor for symptoms. Students who have traveled should plan to stay home for two weeks after arriving home. Please contact your campus to let them know, and this will be considered an excused absence. • If you suspect you have symptoms of COVID-19, call your health care provider for medical advice . • Keep your child at home if he/she feels ill, even if you think it is just a cold. • Do not leave the house if you are ill, except to access medical care This is a quickly changing situation, and we will continue to monitor information, will assess conditions throughout the week, and we will provide updates periodically via our website and local news sources. Thank you for your support and cooperation as we ensure that all members of the community in Eastland ISD stay safe and healthy. Jason Cochran Ed.D – Superintendent Eastland ISD

A number of public school districts in north Texas are announcing an extended spring break to help prevent the spread of COVID-19. After collaborating with state and county health officials as well as surrounding educational leaders, Eastland ISD has decided to extend spring break until Monday, March 23rd. The health and safety of our students and staff is a top priority. The goals of this announced closure are to help prevent the spread of disease and to give our staff additional time to plan for continuity of services should it become necessary for EISD to close for a longer period of time. EISD Admin will meet Monday March 16th and communicate with their staff shortly afterwards regarding the upcoming week. Employees need to be available to work when requested during this extended closure period. Thank you, Jason Cochran Ed.D. – Superintendent EISD

Eastland ISD will be closed on Wednesday, February 5, 2020 due to the threat of inclement weather and a high number of absences due to illness. All activities on Wednesday have been cancelled. Activities scheduled for Tuesday night will proceed as scheduled. The National Weather Service upgraded its weather advisory for Eastland County from a Severe Weather Watch to Severe Weather Warning at approximately noon today. The forecast includes sleet and snow accumulations from 2” to 4” beginning at midnight through 6 pm CST on Wednesday. In addition to the possibility of hazardous road conditions, Eastland ISD staff will be thoroughly disinfecting all three of its campuses which have seen a high number of absences by both students and staff. There is no decision regarding the possibility of closure or delay to the start of school on Thursday at this time. Eastland ISD officials encourage parents and the community to be cautious on the roadways and to attend to any illness that students may have. Thank you, EISD Administration

Attention Dual Credit and Honors Parents... January 8, 2020 Your child will receive their report cards on Thursday January the 9th and you will see the grades that they earned the first semester in their honors and dual credit classes. The numeric average in advanced classes will no longer reflect the 10 points as it is now automatically calculated in their GPA. Historically, EHS has manually added the 10 points to each numeric average. Our system is now set up to add the weighted average of an advanced class to their GPA. This will have zero impact on top ten, valedictorian, salutatorian or the gold and silver teams (all of which are determined by GPA). Should you have any questions, please call the office at 631-5000 from 7:30am-4:30pm. Thanks for your support. Adam Bramlett Principal EHS

The Class of 2023 would like to sincerely thank any and all who attended last Friday night’s “Movie Night” at the Track. As you may know, this was our first attempt at holding an outdoor movie. The weather was wonderful and we drew a very nice crowd, but unfortunately we did experience a significant time delay due to several different technical difficulties, for which we would like to extend our deep and sincere apologies. Please do not discount us in the future, for we have since corrected those issues and are confident that we can overcome any similar problems in the future. With all of that being said, the “Movie Night” was a great success for the Class of 2023 and we intend to host several more movie events at different locations throughout the year so please watch for our signage and social media posts for times and locations. Again, we will have a full concession stand with all of your favorites snacks and drinks! We hope to see you there! Thank you - The Class of 2023

This message is a reminder to all parents that the end of the first six weeks was last Friday, September 20th. Grades will be sent home Thursday, September 26th. I would encourage you to log onto Parent Portal and view your child's grades at any time to check their progress. Our calculation program has changed regarding dual credit classes and/or advanced classes. They still hold a weighted value 10 points above normal credit, but the 10 points will not be calculated until the end of the semester. Class rank is and has been determined on semester average. This 6 weeks calculation system will have ZERO impact on class rank but will provide the parents an appropriate picture of how this student is performing in the class at that time. For example, If you see that your child has a grade of a 72 in a dual credit or advanced class know that when calculated at the end of the semester that would be calculated as an 82. For parenting purposes knowing that their current progress is at 72% may assist in discussions of responsibility, accountability or appropriate class placement. Gold and silver teams will not be effected by this change. We will determine eligibility for the teams based on semester averages. Thanks for your help in this transition.

Online registration is open. Go to: https://gb.txeis14.net/pp067903/Login.aspx Top ten questions answered. 1. All students will need to be registered online this year. As with anything new, it may be a bit frustrating. 2. This is in place of the packet of colored forms you normally complete at the beginning of each year. 3.You will have to have a txConnect account. 4. txConnect is often referred to as Parent Portal. 5. If you don't have an account, you will need your students unique portal ID and a valid email address to set one up. If you call the school at 631-5040 we can give you the portal ID and verify the email address we have on file. 6. This registration it faster and less repetitive than the paper packet. 7. You cannot use the txconnect app. You will have to copy the link into your browser if using a cell phone. (we realize this makes no sense and are frustrated by it as well) 8. If you need help, we have computers set up at the school for you to use, and people to help you. 9. Your student will not be able to get their schedule until online registration is complete. 10. We hope this makes registration easier and faster for parents!
